It’s been awhile since I have posted, and I am finally getting around to it. I really do miss it so it is good to be back :).

In the time that I have been gone, I went to the Florida Blogging Conference (FLBlogCon). I went last year, and this year was just as good of a experience as the last one.

Words can’t even describe how cool it is to be able to meet people that you have talked to and become friends with online. I knew so many more people compared to last year, but I also met a lot of amazing bloggers.

The thing about bloggers is we all speak the same language. It’s a language we have to censor though when we talk to other people who know nothing about blogging. It was almost a relief to go on and on about how to optimize SEO and stats, and of course what plugins to install.

What was really different about this conference was I actually spoke in it! (Here is my presentation)

I talked about how Google Helpouts can help you to grow your blog and market yourself. I was actually really nervous before, which isn’t like me. It was an amazing experience though and I definitely plan on going back next year to speak again.

Throughout the conference I learned five things that really stuck with me

1. Be simplistic
I learned this form Julie Deily’s speech about photography. You have to be really careful about what is and isn’t in the background of your pictures because that can make or break the final result.

2. Utilize free editing tools.
This was also from Julie’s presentation. There are a lot of free apps that we can get on our phone to edit photos. Simply upping the exposure or contrast in a picture can make all the difference as she proved.

3. Less is more
From Adam Avitable’s speech. He talked about how we should edit our posts to give the message we want the reader to leave with. I think I am breaking that rule right now but if he reads this, he needs to know I am trying and feel guilty that it’s so hard to write less :).

4. Put yourself out there
Ted Murphy gave an amazing presentation, which included some stories that led to his founding of Izea. He wasn’t afraid to talk about his failures, which is always refreshing to hear from someone so successful.

5. No blog is perfect
This is a theme I got from the entire presentation. As bloggers, there is always something we can work on and improve on. Numbers in the long run don’t matter nearly as much as the person who is typing the post. It can be easy to get lost in the stats and amount of followers. It’s a matter of believing in yourself and your blog…. Not to mention being okay with some change.

And there you go!

It was an amazing day and I can’t wait for FlBlogCon15!!!
